Introduction
3D Collaborating Space is a virtual reality tool for designers to display, alter, simulate usage, and especially, communicate on details of 3D modeling.
The concept is intended to incorporate rapid design methods into customized 3D design.
This project was associated with HTC VR creative team, with details presented to the manager on each stage of the design process.
Project advised by Chun-Cheng Hsu, Graduate Chair of the Institute of Applied Arts at the National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.
Role
I worked as a UX designer, collecting and analyzing qualitative data of industrial designer workflow, created customer journey map and persona, and video illustration of the value proposition.
Time
Oct 2019 - Dec 2020
Method & Tool
Method: Contextual Inquiry, Persona, Storyboarding, User Story Mapping
Tool: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects
Design Process
Ideation
The goal of the design is to incorporate innovative solutions into the virtual world considering current head-mounted display's limitations.
We started by experiencing the major product on the market like Oculus Quest and HTC VIVE, organizing the key findings categorized into strengths and limitations.
A virtual workshop for 3D design
With productivity tool less found on the market, we decided to make this our cut-in point. VR headset's unlimited display area and immersiveness makes it a outstanding approach to showcase 3D design.
User Research
To verify our assumptions, we decided to take a closer look at the workflow of industrial designer by interviewing, trying to pinpoint problems where VR solutions can step in.
We created a user story after analyzing the qualitative data from the interviews, with possible feedback if incorporating VR into the workflow.
Persona
We collected the extracted data and key findings from the user research and select specific traits to define our persona.
In this example, Liu is an industrial designer specialized in women & children product customization.
We modified the working scenario based on the persona created, provided with pain point throughout the workflow and positive outcomes if applying VR solutions.
Customer Journey
An illustration demonstrating the designer's workflow before and after applying VR solutions.
In this case, the designer-client communication has a significant improvement after solutions applied.
Prototype proposition
Before hacking the idea into a viable prototype, below is the final present of the concept.
Based on the results from the previous stages, we specify our final prototype proposition.
Product Features
Circular User Journey
Storyboard
Concept Video
We created a video to demonstrate how the interaction could be like in the VR world.
